GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories: The faithful walked slowly in a procession past the stone facade of Gazaâs only Catholic church on Palm Sunday, gathering to pray for peace as war raged around them.
Holy Family Churchâs tranquil courtyard, filled with dozens of children and older people, belied the humanitarian crisis happening beyond its gates in Gaza City.
Inside the church, worshippers in their dress clothes lined the wooden pews decorated with palm fronds for the service marking the start of Easter week.

CAIRO: Three Egyptian Coptic monks were killed in a âcriminal assaultâ inside a Coptic monastery in South Africa, the Christian Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt said on Tuesday, and South African police said they were investigating a triple murder.
âThree monks were subjected to a criminal assault inside our Coptic monastery,â the spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church said in statement posted on Facebook, without elaborating.

CAIRO: South African police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in connection with the murder in a church of three Egyptian Coptic Orthodox monks.
The motive for Tuesdayâs fatal stabbings remains unclear.
âThe 35-year-old man is expected to appear before Cullinan Magistratesâ Court on 14 March 2024,â South African Police Service said in a statement.
The monks were murdered on Tuesday at Cullinan, 50 km northeast of Pretoria, the police department said.
